My Life in Horses: Part 2 by Jan Ruth

December 19, 2020

This is the second of Jan Ruth’s ‘My Life In Horses’ that I’ve read. I loved the first one so when I knew this was coming out, I bagged myself an ARC, although I’ve now bought it as well on Kindle. I must say it was a really lovely read and since I can no longer go riding myself, this was the next best thing. Jan Ruth’s descriptive writing is such a treat.

I easily transported myself to the Welsh hills and enjoyed the wonderful rides out in this beautiful part of the world during the course of this year and 2019. I felt as if I was riding with Jan. Simply wonderful. Her relationship with her pony, Storm, is also a delight. His character comes across beautifully and the connection between horse and human is deeply empathic. One of the highlights of the book is a five day trek in the Lake District, which must have been a fantastic experience.

The book switches from last year to this over the four seasons, and this was the only aspect I wasn’t so keen on. I was sometimes a bit confused as to which year I was reading about, but I should say it’s a minor detail in an an otherwise terrific read. I loved it and recommend it highly for all lovers of horses and riding.
